WTN6040F-8S Programmable sound playback chip

  • (1) Operating voltage: 1.8V to 5.5V;
  • (2) Reset conditions: low-voltage reset (LVR=1.7V) or power-off reset;
  • (3) 12-bit PWM pure audio output, capable of directly driving an 8Ω/0.5W speaker;
  • (4) Supports one-wire and two-wire serial port control (up to 224 segments of voice can be loaded, detailed explanation follows);
  • (5) Supports BUSY status output (the standard program’s BUSY pin defaults to high level, and goes low during voice playback. Additionally, under serial port control mode, the BUSY pin changes state only when the voice chip receives the correct voice address sequence);
  • (6) After the chip finishes playing, and the IO pins (DATA and CLK) maintain a stable level (either high or low) for 1 second, the chip enters sleep mode, with sleep current within 10 microamperes.

Product Overview

The WTN6 F series is a cost-effective, high-performance CMOS voice chip. Its standout feature is its reprogrammable capability. Currently available models include the WTN6020-8S-F-B with a voice length of 20 seconds and the WTN6040-8S-F-B with a voice length of 40 seconds. The WTN6040-8S-F-B supports downloader replacement and offers 100KB of voice storage space. The audio sampling rate can reach up to 32kHz, with 16-level volume control and PWM output. The chip operates within a wide voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V.
Considerations for selection:
1. Due to the need for a certain initialization time (approximately 100 milliseconds) when WTN6 powers up, it cannot respond to commands during initialization. Normal reception of control commands can only occur after initialization is complete.
2. Using 4R speakers or parallel-connected speakers may cause the chip’s PWM to experience latch-up, preventing playback. This issue requires re-powering to resolve and could potentially damage the chip.
